Hi, I’m Eugene K. I rent out properties and have done seven renovations, so energy efficiency is something I’ve dealt with hands-on: heat pumps, three-phase electric meters, energy-efficient windows, and insulating pipes, walls and roofs.
On The Low Bill Home I look at every upgrade the same way: what it costs, what it can save, and who it actually makes sense for. When I write about products I haven’t owned, I base my picks on specs, warranty terms and recent owner reviews, especially the critical ones (each guide says how many I read) — and I tell you which is which.

How I work
- Official numbers first. Savings figures come from sources such as the U.S. Department of Energy, ENERGY STAR and the Energy Information Administration, and every guide links to them.
- Owner complaints, not just praise. Before I recommend a product, I read what owners say when it goes wrong. How I choose products.
- Honest about testing. I don’t run a lab. When a pick is based on research rather than my own use, the guide says so.
- Updated. Rates and rules change; every guide shows the date it was last updated.
